Stopping power.

Before we soup up the engine I want to add some stopping power. Not that it brakes poorly. The current brakes do a good job, and with the EBC pads and the DEROK disks are up for the jobs. But when you add some torque, don't forget the brakes!

So, what's the plan? The new rear axle gets upgraded with the Astra F GSI rearbrakes by using the MTech conversion kit. I made a wee start...

Recycling is good for the enviroment. And here's my contribution.

The conversion is not too complicated. The manual is clear and dad is prepared to show his welding skills one more time. And this is the result.

Nice!

The hand brake parts get welded on.

Revising the calipers. Speaks for it's self.

You know what they say about red....

17 September 2003

The calipers are done. Revised, polished, heat resistant paint and new EBC kevlar brake pads. Coming up are the handbrake and disks.

EBC Green Stuff stopping powerrrrr!

Rear axle sanded, disk freshened.

Rear hub, pressin the new silentblocks.

Pfeww! In place. One side left. The axle in place.

19 October 2003

Assembling of the brakes.

New hand brake lining, calipers and hand brake in place. The steel flex brake lines are from Sparco. The fixed lines are made new because I'm not keen on bending the old ones.

the end result; axle, shock, spring and brake disk.

The front brakes are done as well.

25 & 27 October 2003

Almost ready...

All in place. The front brakes are revised. Now I have to find the right pressure regulators.

The new pieces.

1 november 2003

Shit, hooray and shit again! Kut, jippie en weer kut!

The finding of the pressure regulaters turns out to be a nightmare. The should be from ATE, as fitted on the Kadett GSI (Vauxhall GTE). But I can't find them any where.

So over to plan B. Just find youself a complete main brake cylinder and replace it with the current one. Finished! Because the offset of the steel Astra rims are 49 and now the front tires are getting in contact with the front springs. After that is taken care off with 5mm distance disk we are ready for a test drive.

Instead of the Tigra main cylinder there is now the GSI version!

Bleeding the brake system.
